Welcome to 2026 Roulette Fam!

Aahh the bittersweet feeling that comes with the new year. With every exciting & promising 1st of January comes the creeping pressure of bettering ourselves. The new year seems to be attached to a grocery long list of things you should change to make yourself a happier human. When did a date become a symbol of self-imposed guilt, and why do we let it stay that way year after year?

This year, let’s break free of the pressure. Goodbye year-in-advance boring social plans, stressful monthly goals and dreaded weekly workouts. 2026 will be the year of living in the moment. May that be your new year resolution. Wake up and seize the day. Roll out of bed, meet your friends, shop fresh food and enjoy a good meal that will put a smile on your face. The simple pleasure of shared moments with a full belly and a fuller heart.

And on that note, here are the food trends we suspect will appear everywhere and promise to bring daily joy to you and all your greedy little friends:

1. CABBAGE

This crunchy veggie will be crowned vegetable king this year. With cabbage recipe searches increasing by +100% in 2025, we suspect that this underrated yet oh so versatile bad boy will make a huge comeback. And with their cabbage soups, stuffed cabbages and cabbage dumplings, we predict that Eastern European cuisine is finally going to get the love it deserves.

2. BUTTER

Step aside EVOV, Butter is back in town, hotter than ever. We’re talking dill & other bougie flavoured butter. Red meat cooked in a pool of melted butter. Every girl dinner girly squeezing blocks of butter in their sweet potatoes and eating them like a sandwich (Yes Courtney Cook, this one is for you). It’s soft and comforting and a tad nostalgic. And we are here for it.

3. FRICY FLAVOURS

You heard us. A new word has been born with this new year. Fruity & Spicy. Last year was all about crispy chili oil and hot honey. The spice love will keep growing in 2026, but get ready to see some sweet fruity pairings. Think of the chilli powder on your mexican mangos or the spicy salt you love to add to your limey margaritas. Now go to your local Japanese supermarket and buy yourself some yuzu kosho, a fermented chilli and citrus blend, and thank us later.

We hope these tasty predictions inspire you to shop with excitement, cook with a little adventurous spirit and share your new discoveries with those that deserve it.

Happy new year. Let’s make it a yummy one folks!
